As you may have noticed in my recent first impression posts, I rarely actually post about a product that I have only tried once or for a short period of time. I want to make sure that if I love a product, I truly love it and if I hate a product, that I give it several tries with a combination of other products to make sure I’m not unnecessarily ripping it. That’s why, today, I tried the @smashboxcosmetics Photo Finish Oil & Shine Control Primer ($39 for 1 ounce – https://rstyle.me/+Vy608XGirij0Q9QZTV6IUA) on its own and then pitted it against my current favorite mattifying primer, the Cover FX Mattifying Booster Drops (https://rstyle.me/+2BD64UThT-4AYfA38ZBmWg).
What it claims:
🔘 This cruelty-free, gel-to-powder primer feels like clouds and mattifies like magic
🔘 It has time-release technology that works with your skin to control oil for up to 12 hours, and is infused with healthy-skin ingredients like witch hazel, salicylic acid, and zinc to help reduce the look of pores
My experience:
👍🏻 When I first wore this all throughout my t-zone (the only place I put mattifying primers), I was pleased not only with the texture, but the performance appeared excellent. I got less oily than I normally would. I did that several times and had the same experience each time.
🔘 I almost purchased the full size, but I thought I should see how it compares to my favorite first. In the photo, I was wearing @smashboxcosmetics on my right and Cover FX on my left.
👎🏻 Normally when I test out two (2) primers at once, the differences are very minimal. However, in this instance, it was very obvious to me that the Cover FX did a much better job of keeping me oil-free! This photo was taken nearly twelve (12) hours into my day and I hadn’t blotted either side.
My verdict?
If you need some serious deslicking, I highly recommend the Cover FX. The texture is unusual, but once you get used to it, I’m sure you’ll love it.
