When @makeupgeekcosmetics announced the release of their new eyeshadow formula, as a lover of their previous formula, I knew I needed to test it out! All of their new shades are available on the @makeupgeekcosmetics website ($5.49 – $7.99 per shadow – https://www.makeupgeek.com/collections/eyes) and some are even available at @target ($14.99 per quad – https://shopstyle.it/l/bkswV). I created my own palette in hopes that it would be the perfect combination of mattes for me!
Shades I purchased:
🔘 Vanilla Bean
⚪️⚪️ Light beige with peach undertones
🔘 Beach Please
⚪️⚪️ Light soft tan
🔘 Creme Brûlée
⚪️⚪️ Light warm brown
🔘 Berry Shady
⚪️⚪️ Deep berry pink
🔘 Eternally Grapeful
⚪️⚪️ Deep cool purple
🔘 Coffee Before Talkee
⚪️⚪️ Deep neutral brown
🔘 Olive You
⚪️⚪️ Medium olive green
🔘 Spilled Tea
⚪️⚪️ Rich moss green
🔘 Enchanted Forest
⚪️⚪️ Deep ivy green
My verdict?
For this look, I was inspired by @angelabright. I used the Vanilla Bean, Olive You, Spilled Tea and Enchanted Forest on my eyelid and Eternally Grapeful and Vanilla Bean on my lower lash line. I began to do swatches of this custom palette on my arm, but the shadows didn’t swatch well at all, so I skipped taking a photo since I don’t think the bad swatches would represent the product well. As for how the performance compares to the old formula, I still own the Autumn Glow Eyeshadow Bundle and I continue to get a lot of use out of it because the shades are stunning and the quality is superb. When comparing those shades to the shades I purchased in their new formula, honestly, I prefer the old formula – which is, from the reviews I’ve seen, quite the unpopular opinion! Both formulas are high quality and the shade selection with the release of the reformulation is excellent, but I just didn’t fall in love with it like I did the originals.
If you have tried both the old and the new formula, what did you think of the change?
