The fact that I love filling my hair with dry shampoo, volumizer, texturizer, etc. means I, inevitably, get product build up on my scalp. So, when I got a sample of the @dphue Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse ($35 for 8.5 ounces – https://shopstyle.it/l/bgL4R) I knew I had the right situation to test out its efficacy!
What it claims:
🔘 Healthy alternative to shampoo, cleanses and removes impurities from hair
🔘 Does not strip natural oils essential to scalp and hair health color-locking technology
🔘 Seals the hair’s cuticle and rebalances pH to reduce frizz and increase shine Soothes and calms scalp
🔘 Made with proteins that can triple the strength of hair
My experience:
🔘 I have used this only once and it was four (4) days after I’d last washed my hair. Each day in between, I’d been using dry shampoo and could visibly see a build up of product on my scalp.
👎🏻 I was disappointed that the instructions weren’t more clear. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to shampoo before, after, or at all. On the website it says “alternative to shampoo,” so I took that to mean instead of and I skipped that step – only using this and then conditioner.
👍🏻👎🏻 For blow-drying, I put it my normal volumizing foam and heat protectant. What I noticed was that my roots felt heavy and kind of greasy. What was really odd, though, was that they didn’t really look greasy. In the photo (taken yesterday), that was my hair the next morning and without dry shampoo. In my opinion, it looks clean – I just wish it had felt clean.
👍🏻👎🏻 Today, I didn’t use dry shampoo for the second day in a row and, again, it doesn’t look nearly as greasy as I expected it to be, but it still feels a little unclean.
👍🏻 There was a noticeable reduction in build-up on my scalp.
My verdict?
I don’t know if I have ever been so confused by a product. I notice less flakes and see a reduced need for dry shampoo, but, when I run my fingers through my hair, it feels heavy and a bit greasy. I look forward to continuing to try it and giving a full update in an empties post.
Have you ever done an ACV rinse?
