I am not sure if there’s a product more hyped up in the makeup world than the @lauramercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($39 for 1 ounce – https://shopstyle.it/l/bfj6F). I owned it years ago, before I had the amount of powders I have now to compare it to. Now, knowing exactly how I want my powders to perform, I thought it would be a perfect time to test it out again!
What it claims:
🔘 Touch of sheer coverage with a matte finish sets makeup flawlessly for 12 hours
🔘 This lightweight, finely-milled powder doesn’t add weight or texture to skin
🔘 Doesn’t settle into fine lines and never looks cakey
🔘 This no-flashback formula is perfect for photos and creates a soft-focus effect to subtly blur the look of fine lines and imperfections
🔘 Oil-free
🔘 Non-comedogenic
🔘 Dermatologically-tested
My experience:
🔘 Since repurchasing, I have used this four (4) times with four (4) different primer, foundation and concealer combinations.
👍🏻 I absolutely love that it’s actually translucent. It doesn’t add any color and I appreciate that mostly on my undereyes.
👍🏻 It hasn’t made any of my base combinations look dry, heavy or cakey.
👍🏻 It does a really nice job of smoothing out and setting my foundation and concealer.
👍🏻👎🏻 It doesn’t keep me nearly as matte as my favorite loose setting powder, but it’s not the least mattifying I’ve tried.
My verdict?
Am I glad I tried this powder again so that I could be sure of my opinion? Yes. Will I ever repurchase? Probably not. It’s not that it’s a poorly performing product – on the contrary, it’s quite nice. However, it’s very pricey and I use a lot of loose setting powder (especially in the summer). There are less expensive options and they are as good as this is. So, future self, make sure you read this review before you consider adding it to your cart again!
