Today, I’m putting two (2) self-proclaimed gripping primers to the test to see which will reign supreme! In the drugstore corner of the ring is the @elfcosmetics Jelly Pop Dew Primer ($8 for 1.01 ounces – https://shopstyle.it/l/bcJt0). In the high end corner of the ring is the @coverfx Gripping Primer + Firming ($38 for 1 ounce – https://shopstyle.it/l/bcJrg).
What @elfcosmetics claims:
🔘 Watermelon-infused
🔘 Has a unique gel texture that works like glue to grip makeup to ensure it stays put
🔘 Packed with skin-loving ingredients, like hyaluronic acid and a powerful blend of antioxidants, your skin will be looking and feeling its very best
What @coverfx claims:
🔘 A jelly texture primer that visibly firms, creates a glass-like finish, and grips makeup for all-day wear
🔘 Ocean derived complex targets fine lines and improves skin clarity
🔘 Vegan, cruelty free, talc free, paraben free, fragrance free, mineral oil free, gluten free, Alkyl sulfate free and phthalate free
My experience:
🔘 The @coverfx doesn’t have much of a scent at all, while the @elfcosmetics does smell like watermelon candy. I know praising added fragrance in makeup and skincare is bad, but my goodness, I thoroughly enjoy it in the @elfcosmetics.
🔘 Both have a very similar thick and sticky texture and apply almost identically as well.
🔘 I have worn one on one side and one on the other side of my face two (2) days in a row. Yesterday, I even wore them both during my workout.
👍🏻 My makeup smoothed over both primers extremely well. Even though they aren’t marketed as pore-filling, they both made it appear as though a lot of my problem areas were filled in.
My verdict?
Since both primers went on easily, made my foundation look flawless and did a really nice job of making my makeup last well all day long, I have to pick a winner based on price alone. So, congratulations to @elfcosmetics! Your primer is just as good as the high end version, but for over 4x less! If you have been wanting to try the gripping primer trend, I highly recommend you start with @elfcosmetics’ Jelly Pop Dew Primer.
