First Impression Friday – @Joico Hair Shake Liquid-to-Powder Texturizer

November 15, 2019

This may surprise some of you, but I would choose a good hair day over a good makeup day any day of the week. One of my requirements for said good hair day is volume and that’s why nearly every product that claims to volumize instantly gets added to my cart! Today, I’m posting about my experience with @joico’s Hair Shake Liquid-To-Powder Texturizer ($18.99 for 5.1 ounces at @ultabeauty, but there’s a buy 1 get 1 50% off sale right now – https://shopstyle.it/l/ban0w)!

What it claims:

🔘 Plush-yet-airy texture and lift

🔘 Touchable, moldable, layerable styling grip

🔘 Dramatic volume and fullness at the roots

🔘 Invisible, residue-free, grit-free formula dries in a flash

🔘 Ideal for all hair types, textures and lengths

🔘 Create endless styling possibilities with a single styler

My experience:

👍🏻👎🏻 While I don’t love the fact that the bottle is plastic, it does make it easier to travel with.

👍🏻👎🏻 When you go to shake it up, it sounds like you’re shaking a can of spray paint. Normally I would find that fun, but you run the risk of waking up your sleeping partner if you use it within earshot (speaking from experience 😂).

👍🏻 The scent is light and very pleasant, in my opinion.

👍🏻 It’s lightweight and does dry almost instantly.

👍🏻👎🏻 I sprayed a generous amount all over my roots and, as you can tell between the before and after, I got an OK amount of lift. Nothing I would call impressive.

👍🏻👎🏻After my initial use, I wasn’t at all impressed. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t great. Then, I curled my hair the next day – not having washed it out from the day before (other than the hair mask I just posted about, this was the only product I had used) and I realized that, for me, it works so much better on curled hair.

👍🏻 I layered more in today (still having not washed my hair) and absolutely love the look now.

My verdict?

For the price and quantity of product you get, I would say this is absolutely a winner! You may need to use it multiple days in a row to get Texas-level volume, but once you do, it lasts all day. If you have been in the market for a volumizer, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this purchase!
