As my love of warm-toned eye looks has grown, so has my obsession with using a brown eyeliner to finish them off. My go to for over a year now has been the @marcjacobsbeauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Earth(quake) 41 – described as a matte dark brown ($25 for .01 ounces at @sephora – https://shopstyle.it/l/8QBS). However, when the @urbandecaycosmetics 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Whiskey – described as a rich brown matte ($22 for .04 ounces at @ultabeauty – https://shopstyle.it/l/8QB7), I picked it up to see if it could dethrone my current favorite!
What MJ claims:

What UD claims:

My experience:
🔘 On the first day I wore these two head to head, it was on my waterline. Not only was MJ more rich in pigment, it also lasted much longer. Neither were perfect all day long, but MJ looked better for hours longer than UD did.
🔘 On the second day I wore these two head to head, it was on my upper lash line. As you can see from photo four (4) only a few hours into wear, the UD has nearly vanished. Also, both shades are similarly described, but the MJ is much darker and more intensely pigmented.
🔘 Both, when applied to my upper lash line, migrated into the inner corner of my eye – something I absolutely hate.
🔘 The UD, on both the upper lash and lower waterline, was easier to apply because it’s creamier in texture. However, that proved detrimental to its longevity.
My verdict?
Without a doubt, @marcjacobsbeauty wins. I couldn’t even bring myself to wear the @urbandecaycosmetics again for the second photo because I have an event tonight and wanted my eyeliner to perform at its best. I have tried a few shades of the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil now and have been disappointed each time. I’ve officially moved on from that line and will go back to my holy grail until I hear something can compete with it!
