Throwdown Thursday – @bobbibrown vs. @pfcosmetics Illuminating Primers

July 25, 2019

As my love affair with glowy skin continues, I thought it would be fun to pit a couple of primers that claim to be illuminating against one another to see which one reigns supreme! For this experiment, it will be the @bobbibrown Primer Plus Radiance SPF 35 ($38 for 1.3 ounces at @sephora – versus the @physiciansformula Spotlight Illuminating Primer ($15.99 for 1 ounce at @walgreens –
What BB claims:
🔘 A multitasking face primer designed to enhance the quality of your foundation, illuminate the complexion, blur imperfections, and help even out the skin tone
🔘 Features ultra-fine pearl pigments to instantly brighten while UVA and UVB protection helps prevent sun damage
🔘 Contains SPF 35
What PF claims:
🔘 A universally flattering illuminating primer that blurs, corrects, and protects to deliver a radiant, spotlight glow
🔘 Enriched with antioxidants and age-defying actives to protect the skin against environmental aggressors
My experience:
🔘 I applied the @bobbibrown to the left side of my face and the @physiciansformula to the right side.
👍🏻👎🏻 When I blended out the BB, it lost nearly all of it’s luminosity. However, it did leave my skin feel decently hydrated.
👍🏻 The PF, as you can tell by the swatches, is very, very metallic and it looked the same way on my face as it did on my hand. It blended out easily and made my skin feel more hydrated than the BB.
👍🏻 The BB has a light, pleasant scent.
👎🏻 The PF smells terrible – like Play-Doh.
👍🏻 There was a bit of a blurring effect on both sides.
👎🏻 Neither showed through the medium coverage foundation I was wearing.
👎🏻 Throughout the day, the PF side of my forehead began looking very dry.
Also, on both sides of my nose, the foundation began looking cakey and wearing off.
My verdict:
I have done many Throwdown Thursdays in my over two (2) years blogging, but never has the outcome been a draw because both products failed. While I liked aspects of each, the overall performance will make me never use them again.
Do you have a glowy primer you love? If so, please let me know what it is so I can try it out!
