Try Out Tuesday – @covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation

May 28, 2019

A great foundation can make everything you put on top of it look that much better. On the flip side, a terrible foundation can make your other holy grail products look like expired dollar store makeup. So, even though I have found (and own) several good foundations, I am always ready to try something new. That something new, for me, is the @covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation (normally $11.99 at @ultabeauty, but currently on sale for only $6).
What it claims:
🔘 Give your skin a luminous glow
🔘 Available in multiple shades from light to deep
🔘 Oil free
🔘 Minimizes the appearance of oily shine
🔘 Lightweight formula
My experience:
👎🏻 I purchased it from ULTA and, on ULTA’s website, the shade range (seven (7) total) is absolutely abysmal. The Covergirl website isn’t much better – only fourteen (14) shades, with very little variance.
👍🏻👎🏻 The shade I own is “Creamy Natural.” It is a bit too dark for me, so I combine a bit of @lagirlcosmetics’s Pro Coverage Liquid Foundation in White to get my exact shade.
👍🏻👎🏻 It claims to be full coverage, but I would say it’s more like medium with one (1) layer and medium high with two (2) layers.
👍🏻 It blends out beautifully and I agree with the claim of it providing a luminous finish.
👍🏻 I love that it contains SPF 20.
👍🏻👎🏻 I have worn this on a couple of other occasions for over twelve (12) hours each day. In the beginning of the day, I experienced slight settling into my forehead lines, but those dissipated as my natural oils came to the surface. Throughout the day, I experienced very slight settling into the lines in between my eyebrows, but almost every foundation does that on me.
👍🏻👎🏻 The only fading I experienced was on my chin and it was very minimal.
👍🏻 Even though this foundation has a glowy finish, I never felt or looked too oily.
My verdict?
For the price, this is a very, very good foundation! It’s long-wearing, looks beautiful on the skin and contains SPF. However, the unacceptable shade range is a big deterrent. If (and that’s a big if) you can find your shade, I suggest you try this out.
