Friday Fail: @igk_hair Low Key Cleansing Walnut Scalp Scrub

May 3, 2019

As someone who suffers from an itchy scalp (especially in the winter), ever since I discovered that scalp exfoliators are a thing, I have made it my mission to try them all! So, when I saw that my holy grail dry shampoo (@igkhair First Class) came in a gift set with their Low Key Cleansing Walnut Scalp Scrub ($36 for 5 ounces at @sephora), I excitedly picked it up!
What it claims:
๐Ÿ”˜ Gently exfoliates and removes buildup
๐Ÿ”˜ Clarifies and balances the scalp
๐Ÿ”˜ Softens and adds shine
๐Ÿ”˜ Formulated without parabens, sulfates, or phthalates
๐Ÿ”˜ Features lush, vibrant notes of guava, coconut water, pink lotus, midnight violet and vanilla
๐Ÿ”˜ Color safe with UV protection, vegan, cruelty-free and formulated without mineral oil, petroleum and gluten
My experience:
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป The packaging, like all products from @igkhair, is visually pleasing.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป The scent is strong, but pleasant and cooling feeling on your scalp.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป The texture felt promising. Much gritter than others I’ve tried, so I assumed it would mean better exfoliation.
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Unfortunately, the packaging and scent are where the positives stopped for me. The texture was much too thick to spread evenly onto my scalp.
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Attempting to rinse it out was nearly impossible, but once it was, my hair felt stripped and void of moisture.
My verdict?
I will not be purchasing the full size of this product. It’s expensive and doesn’t work – need I say more? As one reviewer on @sephoraโ€™s website put it, โ€œFor the life of me I can not understand how this product has any good reviews at all!โ€
If you use one, what is your favorite scalp scrub?
