When I went to replace my MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Fluidline gel eyeliner with a more affordable drugstore option, I came across rave reviews for both the @lorealmakeup Infallible Lacquer Eyeliner in Blackest Black ($9.79 for .081 ounces at @walgreens) and @maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Blackest Black ($9.79 for .106 ounces at Walgreens). So I purchased both and am pitting them against each other today!
What L’Oréal claims:

🔘 Flawless, fade-free wear
What Maybelline claims:
🔘 Oil-free formula, super-concentrated color pigments
🔘 Intense color and smudge-free wear
🔘 Waterproof, up to 24-hour wear
My experience:
🔘 I applied L’Oréal to my left eye and Maybelline to my right.
🔘 I didn’t use either of the brushes that came with the liners. Instead, I used my favorite gel eyeliner brush – the @maccosmetics 266.
🔘 I lined both my upper lash line and waterline with each product on each eye.
👍🏻 The L’Oréal is blacker and slightly more shiny.
👍🏻 The L’Oréal applied more smoothly and had a creamier texture.
👍🏻 I was able to get my desired line thickness from each with little to no struggle.
👎🏻 Almost immediately, both moved into the inner corner of my eyes. I didn’t clean it up because I wanted to see how it progressed throughout the day.
👎🏻 Now five (5) hours in, both have collected a fair amount in the inner corner. Not unbearable, but more than I would prefer.
👎🏻 Only the Maybelline traveled slightly into the outer corner of my eye.
👎🏻 Both of them wore about the same on my waterline – having disappeared from the inner and outer corners.
👍🏻 The lines I applied on my lash line look just as good as they did this morning.
My verdict?
Price points and wear were similar, but they differed on how they applied and the finish of the products. Because I’m not a pro at applying gel eyeliner, the creamier consistency made the L’Oréal glide on easier, taking me less time. Also, I liked that it was super black with only one stroke of the brush. So, for me, L’Oréal wins this battle!
