As my hunt continues for the best eyeliners (gel, pencil, etc.), I stumbled upon a drugstore favorite of many beauty bloggers I trust and that is the @maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner ($9.79 at @walgreens). I don’t often use gel eyeliner because I’m a perfectionist when it comes to drawing on a straight line, which normally means half of my eyelid is covered in black. However, I love the look and want to start wearing it more, especially if it lives up to the claims of this one!
What it claims:
π Ophthalmologist tested
π Safe for sensitive eyes
π Contact lens safe
π 24-hour wear
π Smudge-proof and waterproof
π Intense color from highly concentrated pigments
My experience:
π I first applied this product to my lash line and waterline at 7 a.m.
ππ» It went on very smoothly and intensely black.
π I didn’t use the included brush because I know I much prefer my @maccosmetics 266 brush.
ππ»ππ» Only an hour or so into wear, I noticed it was traveling into the inside corners of my eyes. However, it traveled in such a way that it almost entirely stayed on my waterline and connected to the end of the line on my lash line. Basically, it looked intentional and not bad at all.
ππ»ππ» It has traveled minimally into the outer corners of my eyes.
ππ»ππ» It has faded very slightly on my waterline, but it hasn’t run at all.
ππ» There is no fading or feathering of the product on my upper lash line.
ππ» I have been wearing it for over seven (7) hours and the wear hasnβt changed much since an hour into wear.
My verdict?
Considering the price and the longevity I have experienced thus far, I would say this eyeliner is a winner for both the upper and lower lash lines – but especially for the upper! It took me only seconds to get an intense black line that didn’t disappear when more product was layered on top. I may now even look forward to applying gel eyeliner in the morning!
What is your favorite black gel eyeliner?
